If it is one thing I value it is learning. I think the exchange of thoughts and ideas can be of great value. I often will ask for outside ideas and thoughts, and this is one of those times. What are you doing to be ready for those things life throws at you?
Currently I am studying for a HAM radio license. I am learning by reading, and then doing. I am on various boards posting daily and reading. I am saving my pennies and buying those items that I know will be needed for my family and I to survive and thrive no matter the disaster. My wife, while not totally on board with my thoughts and beliefs (that is good, as I need a safety now and then!) , helps out and in more than one occasion surprised me and excelled at things. Her idea and mine of being able to survive are two very different things. No power and no water are really bad things to her. To me it is a called a camping trip. My wife thinks camping is a three star hotel without room service. I think it is being able to survive and thrive in your environment with what you brought with ya.
So what are you idea's? What are you doing to help those in your family that see no sense in "prepping"? What are you doing to tell them that having faith in an over thinking federal government, as in they will not be here in time to save your butt! I mean, look at Katrina, forward deployed military gets to other places faster than we could help our own. So fire it up, what are you doing!?
Keep it pointed in a safe direction!

Joe, for almost a decade we've been sharing our prepping with family. Mainly it fell on deaf ears, until recently that is. My folks live right here on our property and until this last 6 months thought we were radical extremists( their words) My Dh tried to talk about the importance of being able to load your own ammo, my Dad poo, pooed it. Now he's kicking himeslef for not listening because he's having a hard time finding needed items( most stores are limiting powder and primers) A wise man told us 15 yrs ago, guns are no good if one piece is taken away.
ReplyDeleteMy folk and inlaws have never beleived that the government wouldn take care of them, until lately, now they see whay we've taken the steps to provide for ourselves.
A year ago, I shared with family that, pretty soon you're going to hear; " It's to late" in relation to food, investments, guns and ammo, etc.... We believe we're almost to that point.
One thing we've done, is we've taken into account for family members who are just now seeing the light, so to speak. We've prepared a list of items they need to get ASAP. My Dad still doesn't buy into everything we share, but at least be is listening and open. There is hope for the DGI's/ sheeple( don't get it's)*wink*
Joe, it is tough to help folks plan when they assume the gov't will just take care of everybody. I have family members who believe the best way to prepare is just with investments and they can work out the rest from there. I specifically have had a hard time convincing them that I consider my guns just as important as my food or other prepreations. Trying to say that if some major event occured in NYC or Washington where I reside in central PA would be overwhelmed with refuges. I would do everything I could to help every person in need that I could but when mob mentality sets in I want to make sure that as someone who will have "stuff" I can defend my family if needed.
ReplyDeletePS - I also have a HAM radio license. You then get the question if you just need the "tech" class license which is good for almost every "local" band but does not get you low band which is able to skip off the ionosphere and communitate around the world. I actually wonder how useful my rig (2m and 440mHz bands) will be if the telecomunications systems are down. Will any repeaters actually have power? Since everything on those bands are done via repeaters would anybody actually know how to go simplex (turn off the repeater offsets on the radio) and actually find each other on the spectrum?
ReplyDeleteYep folks just don't get it. They need to prep because the city, state, or goverment will not help you. Learn what you can a take charge of your life......

Brian,
ReplyDeleteI also have a Hamradio License and although I and DW are bothe extra class operators and we have tower, HF rig and amplifier I hardly use it its her who is predominantly on HF. VHF/UHF is NOT only done on repeaters lol I am having regular contacts over 5-700 miles on 2m SSB with 100w and using random meteors one can get messages trough that can reach 1400+ miles albite slow, they are quite secure from the avaerage riff raff. I would recomment to every prepper to look into VHF 6m and 2m meteor scatter using WSJT. keep in mind that the pre programmed messages can be changed to anything you want. It is easy to get locations and short informations through on 6m with a simple 3 element antenna and 50-100w.
So, long message to say don't discount VHF communications.
